The city uses special assessments to finance different types of local improvements and to recover cost of services, unpaid charges and fines.
Special assessments are charges to specific properties for:
- A particular improvement that benefits the property
- A specific service provided to the property owner
Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 429 authorizes the city to levy special assessments to pay for:
- Utility lines and similar facilities
- Tree removal
- Nuisance abatement
- Unpaid utility bills
- Other special service charges

You can look up levied or formally pending assessments for specific properties online through eProperty.
To locate your property, enter your property address or Property ID number. Assessment and payment information are updated regularly.
Payment options
Special assessments due to the City of St. Louis Park can be paid by mail or in person.
- In person – Made at city hall, 5005 Minnetonka Blvd. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Special assessments must be paid in full; no partial payments are accepted.
Deadline to submit payments
- Pre-existing specials (previously certified) – Nov. 15
- New multi-year specials (not yet certified) – Nov. 30
- New one-year specials – The deadline is shown on the letters mailed to property owners during the annual certification process.
