The St. Louis Park Building and Energy Department administers state and city codes through a variety of programs and policies to help ensure safe, well maintained and energy efficient buildings through its three divisions – property maintenance and licensing, construction codes and sustainability.
The department is responsible for:
- Issuing permits for construction.
- Inspecting new construction and remodeling projects for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical system standards in Minnesota State Building Code.
- Inspecting homes and commercial buildings prior to sale to ensure quality of properties in the city.
- Licensing dogs, tobacco sales and mechanical contractors.
- Enforcing sections of the St. Louis Park City Code related to nuisances and zoning.
- Inspecting multifamily rental units and one- and two-family non-owner-occupied units.
- Providing sustainability programs and resources to help meet the city's environmental stewardship goals
