Dog licenses

St. Louis Park city ordinance requires dogs older than 16 weeks to have a dog license and valid rabies vaccination. If you're a St. Louis Park resident, access to the city's off-leash dog parks is included with the dog license.

Current Dog license holders can now renew online using eLicenses. You will need your renewal letter and Vaccination Certificate to complete the online renewal.

How to apply

View and complete the dog license application and submit it in one of the following ways.

• Email – inspections@stlouisparkmn.gov. Include name and phone number to be contacted for payment.
  
  
• In person – Apply at the city hall second floor inspections desk. Office hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  
  
• Fax – 952.924.2663. Fax is secured; you may add credit card information on the fax cover sheet.
  
  
• Mail – Include a check or a name and phone number to be contacted for credit card payment. Mail to:

Non-residential off-leash dog park permit

Non-residents can use the off-leash dog parks if they purchase a non resident off leash dog park permit. The permit is good from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 of the current year.

To apply, your dog must have a current dog license from the city you live in and proof of rabies vaccination. If your city does not issue dog licenses, proof of rabies vaccination is all that is required.

Clean up after your dog

Carry bags and paper towels with you, pick up your dog’s mess, secure the bag, then dispose of the bags in the nearest public garbage can or your own garbage can. Don’t dispose of pet waste in another resident’s garbage can or in commercial garbage cans.

Leash law

Dogs are not allowed to run at large in St. Louis Park unless they are at an off-leash dog park. Dogs must be controlled by a leash no more than 20 feet long, which is shortened to 6 feet when another person or animal is within 20 feet.

Lost animal

If you lost a pet, contact the police department’s dispatch line at 952.924.2618 as well as local animal shelters. State law requires all impound facilities to hold stray animals for at least five days to give an owner the opportunity to locate their pet. Be sure to contact all animal impound facilities and shelters in the area where your pet was lost.

Wild animals as pets

City ordinance prohibits residents from keeping any animal prohibited by state or federal law, as well as non-domesticated animals such as skunks, bobcats, wolves, venomous snakes, etc. For more information, call the St. Louis Park animal control officer at 952.924.2133.
