Volunteer opportunities with the city

Looking for a way to stay busy and give back to the community? Below are easy, independent activities that can be done with social distancing. For more information, email slpcommunityvolunteers@stlouisparkmn.gov.

Parktacular

Volunteer at the city's annual Parktacular celebration! Volunteers are needed June 15 - 16 in several areas, including the fishing clinic, parade, information booth and Kidtacular. All volunteers receive a free T-shirt and meal voucher. Visit Parktacular's website to sign up or for more information.

Pick up the Park

Help beautify St. Louis Park by picking up litter and debris from a local park or street! This is a great activity for all ages and can be done on your own time while physical distancing. Use your own bags and gloves, and place bags in the trash cans located at each park. Volunteers are invited to post their pictures on social media and tag the city, @stlouispark!

Adopt-a-Drain program

Help us protect our lakes, streams and wetlands by adopting a storm drain and keeping it clear of leaves, trash and other debris. The simple act of sweeping up around a storm drain helps protect local lakes and rivers by preventing pollution from entering our shared waterways.

To adopt a storm drain, visit Adopt-a-Drain.org. Simply create an account with your name and address to claim your storm drain. Once you’ve signed up, Adopt-a-Storm-Drain will send you tips on how to clean up safely.

With more than 300,000 storm drains in the metro area, everyone’s help is important in making an impact! Learn more on Clean Water Minnesota's website.

Garden adoption

Help plant and maintain one of our city flower gardens this spring. Flowers are provided, and you can plant on your own time. Volunteers maintain the flower gardens throughout the summer.

Adopt a Spot

Help keep St. Louis Park beautiful by adopting a spot to care for! Your spot can be a park, garden, playground, trail, road or any public space in the city. Once adopted, monitor your spot to ensure it is well cared for, litter free and report any repairs to the city.

Fire hydrant painting

More than 1,500 fire hydrants need your help! This opportunity can be for individuals or groups, painting one or more hydrants in your neighborhood. Training and materials are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Hydrant Hero

There are roughly 1,700 fire hydrants in St. Louis Park, and although we have firefighters to remove snow around the hydrants after a snowfall, they can't always clean them all in a timely manner. This is where you can help. Volunteer to become a Hydrant Hero and keep the hydrants around your homes and businesses clear of snow in the winter and free of plant overgrowth in the summer.

Interested volunteers can adopt a hydrant at www.hydranthero.org. Choose a hydrant, click on the “Adopt me” link and fill out the registration form – you can even give your hydrant a name!
