There are many ways to serve the community and make an impact. The opportunities listed below are not subject to the annual appointment process by council because they are regional in nature, operate under a different authority, and/or members are appointed by another jurisdiction. The work done by each of these bodies is extremely important and contributes to the overall vitality and progress of our community. Applications for open positions are accepted by the city and provided to the appointing authority for consideration.
The Bassett Creek Watershed Management Commission works to maintain and improve the quality of surface and ground water resources of the watershed. The commission is made up of a commissioner, alternate and technical advisor from the nine member municipalities of Crystal, Golden Valley, Medicine Lake, Minneapolis, Minnetonka, New Hope, Plymouth, Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park. The commission meets the third Thursday of every month at 11:30 a.m. in Golden Valley.
The St. Louis Park Charter Commission operates under the authority provided in state statue. The city's home rule charter is, in effect, the city's constitution. It establishes the city's form of government and sets forth rules and guidelines for effective governance. Members of the charter commission maintain, evaluate, and propose changes that are warranted in the city's home rule charter. The group also monitors legislative activities on an ongoing basis. Members of the charter commission are appointed by the chief judge of the Hennepin County District Court.
The city regularly has volunteer opportunities available. If you are looking for a way to stay busy and give back to the community, visit the volunteer page on our website for more information on easy, independent activities you can sign up for today!
