St. Louis Park issues individual dewatering permits in conjunction with the erosion and sediment control permit for any dewatering of groundwater, basin draining, or surface water from construction projects in the city. The permit only applies to projects that plan to pump groundwater, basin draining, or surface water, temporarily or permanently, from their project. Dewatering is a common practice during and after construction, but it can also significantly affect the environment and public safety if not planned and implemented properly.

From the list below, select items that apply to your dewatering project:

  1. Dewatering permit application
  2. Sanitary sewer dewatering agreement
  3. Storm sewer dewatering agreement
  4. Metropolitan council special discharge permit application
    1. Special discharge application
    2. Community review form
  5. MN DNR water appropriations permit (MPARS)
  6. Dewatering plan development and specifications
    1. St. Louis Park specifications
    2. National pollutant discharge eliminations system general construction stormwater permit - see sections 2.3, 10.2-10.6, 11.9, 11.12, 25.7.
  7. Flow meter specifications
  8. Groundwater analytical results for dewatering permitting approval

The permit fee is $375.

Note, for commercial projects that will require any dewatering activities, the erosion control permit will not be issued until the dewatering permit has been submitted and there’s a preliminary approval.
