Electric vehicles (EVs) are more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, they’re better for the environment and they help create healthier communities. To learn more about the different types of EVs and their benefits, visit Drive Electric Minnesota's website.

Along with the resources below, view our electric vehicle testimonial videos of St. Louis Park residents and employees talking about what they love most about driving electric.

Choosing a vehicle

Use Xcel Energy’s EV catalog tool to help you find new and used electric vehicles (EVs) that match your needs and lifestyle. All you need to do is enter your commute distance, budget, charger availability and any other preferences.

Minnesota has adopted clean car standards, and starting in 2024, Minnesotans will have more choices when it comes to purchasing electric vehicles at local dealerships.

EV incentives and tax credits

A federal tax credit is available for eligible new and pre-owned electric vehicles.

Public charging

There are many public, and often free, Level 2 and DC fast charging stations in St. Louis Park and other surrounding cities. Explore the Plugshare map to find locations that will work for you. Free Level 2 chargers are available at Westwood Hills Nature Center, city hall and The Rec Center.

Charging at home: 1 – 4 unit residents

Charging at home: apartment residents

Your landlord or property management company may be willing to install a Level 2 charger or dedicate a Level 1 outlet to EV charging. Many employers are also beginning to provide a charging option for employees, and there are many public charging options available.

Mudcharging.com has great EV charging guidance and resources for EV owners, home owner associations and building owners/managers interested in installing chargers at apartment buildings.
